1. Where does the name "OneEighty" come from?

  • The name comes from 2 Timothy 2:22 "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." In this verse, when we combine the words "flee" and "pursue" together, we easily get an image in our minds of a person who is not only running away from something, but they are also running to something. What we see then is a picture of how we ought to be living our lives - running from evil as we run towards Christ. The name oneeighty describes this process because it signifies a new life direction!

2. Is it okay for me to bring my friends to ONEEIGHTY?
  • Absolutely! Sometimes we are afraid to bring our friends to "church" things because we fear they won't like it or won't like us after inviting them. The reality however, is that more and more teenagers today are curious about spiritual things, want to know the answers to life's toughest questions, and want to be a part of something that's bigger than they are. They have a deep hunger for truth and once they realize who God is, they want to be able to truly experience a relationship with Him for themselves. By inviting your friends to OneEighty they'll have an opportunity to experience the love, forgiveness, and joy that come from a relationship with Jesus Christ. Oh yes, and they will have a lot of fun too!

3. If God gave us the Bible so that we could understand Him better, why are some parts of it very confusing?
  • We must admit that there are parts of the Bible that are confusing. The Bible is confusing because God wrote it, but He used human authors. They used a different language and had different historical and cultural contexts. While there are parts of the Bible that are difficult to understand, an objective interpretation is possible. God even tells us in the Bible that we need His help in order to understand it. It is also important also to realize that the essential messages of the Bible are clear and without dispute.

4. Is Christianity the one true religion?
  • Yes, the Bible teaches that Christianity is the one true religion. Jesus said that He alone was the way to the Father (John 14:6) and that He alone revealed the Father (Matthew 11:27 & Luke 10:22). Christians believe He was the Son of God (John 8:58 & Exodus 3:14), who forgave sins (Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20, & Luke 7:48), who fulfilled every prophecy written about Him (Luke24:27 & Luke 24:44), and who rose from the dead (Luke 24:24-29 & John 2:19). Joseph Smith wasn't the Son of God. Confucius never forgave anyone their sins. Muhammad never fulfilled detailed prophecy. And Buddha didn't rise from the dead. Although there is far less reliable information written about these men, people still believe in them. But Jesus Christ did all 4 and and the records are contained in the most reliable ancient document we possess to date - the Bible.

5. If you had 2 minutes to convince a person of a different belief about Jesus being our Lord and Savior, what would you say?

Some people really resist in believing that Jesus is God's Son, so try explaining the following:

  • 1. Jesus did miracles that only God could do.
  • 2. The prophets and His followers proclaimed that Jesus was God.
  • 3. Jesus proved who He was through His resurrection.

6. How can I grow in my relationship with God?
  • We sincerely hope that the students who graduate from our ministry don't "graduate" from their faith as well. We want your relationship with God to be bigger than any event or person you could meet at oneeighty. If you're going to take your faith to the next level, you'll want to develop some personal spiritual habits that will help you to grow in your relationship with God.

Here's a brief overview of those habits:

  • H: Hang Time with God - a hang-time journal
  • A: Accountability - a close friend who also wants to help you grow
  • B: Bible Memorization - using verse packs to know God's Word by heart
  • I : Involvement In The Church - helping you find a place to use your spiritual gifts
  • T: Tithing & Other Spiritual Disciplines - fasting, praying, etc.
  • S: Study the Bible - individual studies are available To help you with these, we've created some tools for each of the habits above. If you're interested in getting these, ask one of the leaders.
